FUFA is battling with payments for referees, who handled their premier league although the second round of the competition is set to roll off with six matches around the country on February 7.

FUFA pays a referee sh70000 per match and vice president in charge of the league, Mujib Kasule, said yesterday that the referees’ allowance has remained a big challenge for the federation.

FUFA has adopted a plan to pay their officials in intervals and Kasule said that the federation was bent on getting financial help to meet their part of the bargain before the second round kicks-off.

FUFA has not paid referees, who officiated the first round of their league. They also expect to provide balls among other logistics for the competition.

Although Kasule maintains that the debt will be cleared before second round kicks off on February 7, the federation is yet to find the cash.

The federation also clarified that Vipers SC will not host their second round matches of the league at Buikwe grounds. 

Vipers host Proline in one of the seven matches expected on the opening day of the second round around the country.

But Kasule noted that it was a mistake because the ground is still under suspension.

FUFA suspended ground indefinitely following hooliganism between Vipers and SC Villa fans in the first round of the league in November last year.

“It was a mistake that we did not change after the violence in Buikwe. Otherwise, Vipers are expected to host their home matches at Kitende until the time the punishment on Buikwe grounds is lifted,” Mujib explained.

Kasule and chairman of the league Abaas Kawaase anticipate a competitive second round compared to the first round but noted that they expect hitches with financial facilitation of the fixtures.

On the opening day of the second round, Vipers SC, URA, Kiira Young and Soana FC will all have the chance to leap or maintain the top position on the table.
