Authorities in Bukomansimbi have banned betting and playing cards and other related gambling games as a way of reducing crime in the area.
Speaking at a security meeting held at Kawooko village in Butenga Sub- County on Tuesday, Muhammad Katerega, the district chairman, said places with pool tables and betting centers would open at 1 pm and close at 9 pm.
He warned that failure to adhere to the set regulations would lead to closure of business.
“Many youth are obsessed with gambling instead of searching for jobs or start income generating activities,” Katerega said.
He added that instead of doing productive work, they instead indulge in gambling and petty theft for a living.
