Willy Kitatta skipped the Castle Lite/Orange January Mug at Entebbe Golf Club last weekend, opting to begin the 2014 season with the Sigona Open in Nairobi, Kenya where he suffered a shoulder injury.
Kitatta scored 77 in the opening round and 70 in the second round before tearing a tissue in the shoulder on hole 14 in the third round.
“I was really scared by the injury because I have the Kenya Open in March. I rushed back home to see my doctor in Entebbe,” he said.
“The doctors advised me to rest for two weeks. I am glad it is not a long term injury.” Kitatta intends to turn professional after the Barclays Kenya Open which is part of the European Tour.
While he was distressed by the injury in Nairobi, back home David Scanlon playing off handicap 18, shot 69 nett to claim the January Mug. Patrick Mwaka (75 nett), Dennis Kahindi (72 ) and Timothy Mwandha (73) topped group A, B and C respectively.
