Blick Sr. breaks 20 year silence

Motorsport legend Arthur Blick Senior has broken silence after over two decades, backing his son Arthur Blick Junior’s candidature for Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) presidency.

Blick Senior, the 1971 East Africa motorcycle champion also dominated the national championships in the 1960s and 1970s before he retired at the peak of his career in 1982 when he broke a spine in the motorcycle race at Bugembe Stadium in Jinja. He is also a former rally driver.

Blick has been quietly following developments in motorsport from his Kisinsi farm on the shores of Lake Victoria in Kyaggwe, Mukono district where he is confined on a wheelchair.

Never quoted in the media for over two decades, New Vision reproduces Blick Senior’s handwritten letter to the Sports Editor. I would like to comment on your December 27th story

“Blick sets eyes on FMU top seat” I am a former rally driver, East Africa and national motorcycle champion, rugby and squash player and Snooker champion.

Arthur Junior is my son and I strongly support his candidature for President of FMU for the following reasons; He has grown up in a sporting family involved in several disciplines from motorsports to physical sports like rugby, basketball and squash.

He has participated in both rally and motorcycle racing as a driver and rider respectively.

He knows the hardships fellow drivers and riders go through to participate. He has bought rally cars and racing motorcycles for himself and his sons and knows the sacrifice he makes to buy them so expensively. This would enable him fight for complete duty free motorsport vehicles, bikes and spare parts.

He is a good leader and organiser who has resurrected motorcycle racing in the country and taken it to greater heights from the doldrums it had sunk to after my departure and the death of my late brother Paddy Blick.

He loves motorsport judging from the time and cash he puts in. Motorsport is more about the drivers, co-drivers and riders, their service crews, organizing clubs, sponsors and officials working as a team to take motorsport to greater heights. Arthur knows this and will avoid wrangles of the past.”
