The Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) has resumed marking of national examinations, an exercise that came to a halt after their computers crashed.

According to Fagil Mandy, UNEB chairperson, a  technician from South Africa repaired the computer that was recording points.

“We couldn’t hire another technician to tamper with the machine simply because it was brought in from South Africa. So we had to bring in the South Africans,” he said

Mandy noted that Uganda does not have any technicians who can fix such machines, forcing them to wait for technicians from South Africa thus delaying work.

UNEB Tuesday halted the marking of exams after their computers crashed.

Last December, marking of the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) exams was delayed after the board run out of cash.

Marking of S6 exams was slated to start on January 2, 2014, but may be postponed. Marking of P7 and S4 exams is complete but results are yet to be tallied.
