With the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) polls hardly 10 days away, presidential candidate Kisitu Mayanja appears to be losing his grip on the FMU executives’ block vote.

In a surprise revelation, FMU secretary Reynolds Kibira, denied that outgoing executive committee members were backing Kisitu’s candidature.

“Our nine votes are up for the taking by any of the candidates. My personal analysis is that Jack (Wavamunno) and Kisitu carry almost equal chances,” Kibira argued in an email to New Vision.

“As far as the executive is concerned, we have not endorsed any of them.”

The FMU secretary is facing a spirited challenge from his assistant Nevice Kizito who appears to have gained popularity among the majority of the 15 clubs.

The no-nonsense Kizito who fell out with fellow FMU executive hardly a year after being elected, has distanced herself from blame heaped by the incumbents and joined the forces of change.

Kibira has made a case for continuity.

“We must consolidate even as new faces will come into the federation,” Kibira argued.

“Growth of the Pearl brand, capacity building especially in the area of safety, clerks of course and other officials is important.

The official added, “focus on having events upcountry, our international influence on tribunals and the development of new disciplines such as Enduro/Baja and the 4X4 Off-road must be continued and natured.”
