The Ministry of Health has banned vending of food in public places in Napak district as a preventive measure against Hepatitis E that has hit the area.

The Ministry of Health has banned vending of food in public places in Napak district as a preventive measure against Hepatitis E that has hit the area.


 State minister for primary health care, Sarah Opendi, who on Monday visited the district also banned the sale of local brew saying the brewing process was not hygienic and could escalate the spread of the disease.

A total of 573 cases of Hepatitis E have been registered in the sub-counties of Lokopo, Lorengechora, Lopeei, Iriiri and Matany.

Seventeen people have died of the disease, 11 of whom were expectant mothers.

 Minister Opendi announced that her ministry released shs357m for various interventions geared towards stopping the spread of Hepatitis E epidemic in Napak district.

She said the funds will facilitate the district task force on Hepatitis E, and purchase of aqua safe tablets to enable the people drink safe water.
