THE Uganda women volleyball team is expected to camp in Netherlands for two-weeks in preparation for the 2014 World championships qualifiers due in Nairobi, Kenya next month.

According to the team coach Tonny Lakony, the first ever tour for the women not only out of the country but Africa as well, is meant to offer them the best of training camp to match opposition in the final round of the qualifiers.

Uganda is expected to compete against hosts Kenya, Seychelles, Tunisia, Senegal, Mozambique and Cape Verde in Pool U of the qualifiers from February 16-23.

While in the Netherlands, the team will be handled by a number of former Dutch national players and foreign coaches who will equip both Lakony and his players with more modern volleyball training skills.

“This trip will benefit us significantly to look at volleyball differently because we have a mainly young side that is likely to keep around for some time. So it will help us to learn new ideas and look at volleyball in a better perspective than we do now. This will improve competitiveness of the team,” Lakony said.

The trip is sponsored by Air Brussels, the team’s Dutch technical adviser Bart Munting and Uganda Volleyball Federation.
