President Museveni has confirmed that he would attend the UPDF elections slated for Friday, where the electorate in the rank-and-file will vote to replace ex-spy chief, Gen. David Sejusa.

Speaking to New Vision, UPDF spokesperson, Lt. Col. Paddy Ankunda, said that the President confirmed that he would attend the event, where he would unveil a list of nominated officers that the men-in-uniform would select from to fill the vacant slot of the 10 UPDF representatives in the House.

“The list is with the President, and it will be made public at the hall where the voting will take place. It is official and the President has confirmed that he will attend the election function,” Ankunda said.

The President is the chairperson of the UPDF council, which votes on the UPDF representation in Parliament.
According to the Electoral Commission, the UPDF polls will be held this week on Friday at Bombo Army barracks.

Parliament last year unanimously agreed following a report by the Rules, Discipline and Privileges Committee that Sejusa was guilty of being AWOL for over 15 sittings—without any valid explanation to the Speaker of Parliament.
Consequently, the Speaker declared his seat vacant.
