Museveni addresses regional police chiefs

President Yoweri Museveni has addressed the regional police chiefs retreat taking place at Paraa Safari Lodge, Murchison Falls National park.

Thirteen police chiefs under their umbrella body, the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) are in the country to attend their first annual retreat.

In attendance of the two-day meeting are Police chiefs of Uganda, Burundi, Comoros, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Seychelles, Somalia, and Tanzania.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen. Edward Kale Kayihura said the retreat will be used to discuss Africa's emerging crimes with special focus on cyber-crime and management of contemporary violence.

The retreat is organized under the theme, "challenges of contemporary policing in the Eastern Africa region: managing violence and cyber-crime."

The decision to hold the retreat was taken by the EAPCCO Council of police Chiefs (CPC) extraordinary meeting held in Kampala last year.

"We appreciated that we did not have enough interaction with our respective political authorities, especially our respective heads of state, in respect to our work, and decided to arrange the retreats so that we get their insights, and strategic guidance on specific areas of policing and security," said Kayihura.
