Hundreds turn up for police recruitment

Recruitment of Police cadets in the central region has kicked off. Hundreds of applicants turned up at the Kibuli Police training school on Monday for the exercise.

Recruitment of Police cadets in the central region has kicked off. Hundreds of applicants turned up at the Kibuli Police training school on Monday for the exercise.

A total of 500 cadets and 3, 000 probation police constables are to be recruited during the exercise. Regional Police Commander, Moses Kafeero who headed the exercise at Kibuli said that the exercise went on well and peaceful.

“The exercise is peaceful and all the candidates who applied are to be considered once they fulfill all the necessary requirements,” he said.

Applicants for the cadet course are supposed to be between 18 and 30 years of age and must have a minimum qualification of a degree from a government recognized university. Candidates for the probation police constable are supposed to have attained minimum of a certificate in Uganda Advanced Certificate Education (UACE) or its equivalent.

Kafeero said that the candidates have undergone physical tests and those who failed where turned down.

 The recruitment will increase the number of police officers in the country to 46,500. The force needs at least 65,000 police officers to meet the UN standard of one police officer for every 500 people.

In Soroti, over 250 candidates from seven districts in Teso turned up at Soroti secondary school.

The applicants were subjected to physical excises that included running for one kilometer, blood checkup for HIV/AIDS and other related complicated aliments.
