Minister of Works Abraham Byandala on Friday commissioned the second biggest paved runway at a ceremony held at Gulu Airport.
The ceremony to launch the runway was attended by officials from the Uganda People’s Defence Airforce, Civil Aviation Authority Director Rama Makuza, a spectrum of CAA officials, Gulu District Chairman Martin Mapinduzi and district councilors.

Byandala said in terms of infrastructure sh10b Gulu Runway is the second biggest at 3.1 kms following Entebbe Airport which is 3,6kms. The Airport was established in 1959 is undergoing upgrade in phases due to limited resources.
He said under the long term master plan, government is seeking US$456m to upgrade the aeronautical and other important infrastructure at Gulu Airport to raise it to international standards.
The Director of the Civil Aviation Authority, Rama Makuza, appreciated the standard of work executed by the contractors, Energoprojekt.
