Tororo district chairman Emmanuel Osuna has joined the business community in Tororo town to protest against delayed reconstruction of Tororo main roundabout.

The work is being carried out by Dott services limited, the company rehabilitating Tororo-Mbale- Soroti road.

In a January 7 letter addressed to Uganda National Roads Authority [UNRA] Tororo resident engineer Chris Opuch , Osuna said he has received several complaints in regard to the bad state of the roundabout caused by the ongoing rehabilitation of Tororo-Mbale road which has taken over two months.

"This is a busy spot of the town and prone to accidents with all types of motor vehicles currently passing on one side of the roundabout including trucks and fuel tankers’’ Osuna stressed.

Osuna said the spot is an embarrassment to governments’ efforts of improving the road network adding that as a district they try as much as possible to ensure that their roads are kept in good condition while the ones of UNRA are not rehabilitated timely.

"The purpose of this letter is to seek for your intervention to compel the contractor to speed up work at that spot to avoid the worst situation to happen and I also remind you to speed up work on other roads under the management of UNRA in Tororo district; namely Rubongi-Mulanda- Buwesa, Malaba- Kwapa-Tuba, Iyolwa-Nambogo, Nagongera- Paya and Nagongera- Busolwe’’ Osuna said.

The letter is also copied to the minister of works and Transport, members of parliament, resident district commissioner and UNRA executive director among others.
