South Sudanese refugees increase

By Tuesday evening 3,249 South Sudanese had entered through Elegu in Adjumani. Dzaipi Transit Centre now has 19, 866. However thousands of refugees still remain unregistered.

The number of refugees fleeing the unrest in South Sudan has continued to swell.

By Tuesday evening 3,249 South Sudanese had entered through Elegu in Adjumani. Dzaipi Transit Centre now has 19, 866. However thousands of refugees still remain unregistered.

Uganda Red Cross Society has deployed 51 volunteers to support Government and partners in registration, reception, hygiene and sanitation promotion, restoration of family links (tracing), identification of Unaccompanied minors and separated children, provision of first aid and psychosocial services at Dzaipi.

The volunteers are also supporting in reception of South Sudan refugees at Elegu border point.

In Arua, 6, 000 refugees were registered Tuesday. Government is today Wednesday opening a new refugee settlement  at Imvepi in Arua due to congestion in Rhino Camp. However there are still many unregistered South Sudanese at Keri Transit Camp
