Museveni appalled by religious wars

The bickering that galvanized the Christian faith in the areas of Kabale-Kigezi — pitting Catholics and Anglicans — was not necessary, President Museveni has said.

Speaking during the thanksgiving mass of businesswoman, Tereza Mbire, at Christ the King Church, Museveni said that he was appalled by the infighting between the Catholics and Protestants, which characterized the region of Kigezi.

“Kabale is a land of Christians. There are two factions there. One faction is of Catholics, the other Protestants. They were at each other’s throats in the name of God,” he said.

“I have been reading the Bible; I have never seen where Jesus or God said that ‘you fight your neighbour’.

"In fact, the two greatest commandments were; love God with all your heart, mind and soul and love your neighbor as you love yourself. These are the two greatest commandments," he said.

"All the others are subordinate to these commandments. But in Kabale, those believers in God wanted to kill each other. How can you claim to love God, who have never seen and you hate your neighbor, said Museveni.
