TITLE favourite IM Elijah Emojong is still on track for the sh1.2m top prize at the Rwabushenyi Memorial Chess Championship ending today at Hotel Africana.

Following the early results, Uganda’s highest decorated player Emojong, rated 2339, had by press time won all his four games and was leading the highly competed ‘rated category’ with 4 points.

Emojong beat Vianney Luggya in the opening game on Friday before seeing off Farouk Fauza, Walter Okas and defending champion Harold Wanyama.

He was there after pitted against strong challenger, Arthur Ssegwanyi in the fifth round that was ongoing by press time yesterday.

In the women’s category Woman Candidate Master (WCM) Ivy Amoko is also enjoying the lead with maximum points after round four. She beat Joan Nakimuli, Stella Babirye, Olga Namwanje and later also silenced fellow WCM, Phiona Mutesi. This also puts her on course to winning the sh600,000 top prize.

The unrated category has also showed a high level of competition, with four players Francis Makhombe, Caxton Kalule, Richard Tugume and Arthur Lwanga tying in top position on  four points.

The four-day contest has also featuredthe U-14 category who are being led by Iyer Sathya with 4 points followed by Gloria Nansubuga and Henry Kimbowa tied at 3.5 points each.
