KAMPALA - Two people died instantly when the car they were traveling in collided head-on with a bus along Jinja highway Sunday morning.

The smaller car – a Nadia – carrying the two men rammed into a Modern Coast Bus headed for Nairobi-Mombasa at around 6.00am local time (EAT), a witness said.

A security guard witnessed the crash, which occurred near a City Oil petrol station towards Banda, Kyambogo.

He said he saw the white Nadia vehicle move towards Kampala in a somewhat “zigzag” manner on the road which was not busy at the time.

The bus was traveling in the opposite direction at a high speed, said the guard.

He then saw the bus try to reduce its speed but it was too late as it hit the smaller wobbly car.

Another man who was several feet away from the crash scene said one of the victims in the Nadia was thrust out of the vehicle and landed in the middle of the road, splitting his head open upon impact with the surface.

The force of the collision sent the two vehicles skidding off the road. None of the passengers aboard the bus was injured, but the experience had shaken most of them.

Police got to the crash scene moments after the crash.

Broken pieces of beer bottles were found inside the crumbled Nadia car, which led police to point to drink-driving as the likely cause of the accident.
