The She Cranes vowed to step up gear after winning the Six Nations Cup in Singapore recently.

Led by a number of seasoned players including the team captain Peace Proscovia, Martha Soigi and Halima Nakachwa, the team defied ranked opponents including hosts Singapore, in the final, to lift the crown for the first time.

The success also earned Uganda a world ranking for the first time. The latest rankings list released by the International Netball Federation, put Uganda at number 14 worldwide.

Uganda joined a few other African countries with a world ranking including Malawi at number 5 and South Africa at 6. Proscovia’s team is now eyeing the Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar, January 8-12.

Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) has summoned 18 players for non-residential training at Nakivubo stadium. The team will be handled by Vincent Kiwanuka.

UNF secretary Annet Kisomose said that the team will leave by road on January 5. The team will connect to Zanzibar by ship.
