KAMPALA - Ugandan kick-boxer Ronald Mugula has doubled his training time ahead of the Intercontinental Championship fight against Egyptian fighter Abdallah Hessen on New Year’s Day.

With just nine days away, Mugula has upped his training to two times a day, looking to gain as much fitness as he will need for the highly anticipated fight.

In an interview with New Vision just after a training session at the Mt. Zion Hotel gym, the Ugandan fighter provided hints that he planned to take out his African opponent by the third round.

Even if he fails by Round Three, Mugula believes he will still have enough verve to beat Hessen in the points tally by the judges.

“I don’t want to disappoint my fans in their New Year celebration party,” he said of a fight that will take place at Freedom City, Namasuba along Entebbe Road.

Though he is confident his opponent will be no more very early into the fight, Mugula maintained that he had to work on his endurance to enable him fight more rounds as back-up.

The 65-kg kickboxer says he wants to use the New Year’s Day fight as preparation for the hotly-awaited encounter with fellow countryman Moses Golola.

To many local fans of the sport, the Mugula-Golola clash will determine who Uganda’s number one kick-boxer is.

“I am ready and being that I am fighting a style (K1) I know most which none of my competitors have survived a knockout.

“Victory is mine and Golola should just be ready because he is next on the list,” Mugula burst with vigor.

Mugula has registered 44 wins (of which 24 were knockouts), 10 losses and 6 draws.

His dominant winning record should be the reason he is confident he will brush aside his latest opponent in front of a home crowd.
