Toro Golf Club youngster Daniel Baguma heads to the 54-hole Nyali Open due December 14-16 in Mombasa in high spirits after winning the Mukwano Open with 65 gross at Toro Club on Saturday.

The 17-year-old was in fine form beating a strong field of 70 golfers at the 39th edition of the annual tournament that attracted golfers from Kasese, Entebbe, Mbarara and Toro clubs.

En-route to victory, the national team prodigy hit six birdies to win his second major tournament in two years.

Baguma beat Toro Club’s Adolf Muhuza and Denis Otim to the top spot by two and five strokes respectively. Kasese’s Happy Robert finished fourth with Lawrence Muhenda (Toro) finishing fifth.

“Since returning from the East African challenge where I lost my games I hit the course and have been on the range since then so I think this is what has helped me to win this tournament,” Baguma said.

The 54-hole Nyali Open where he is headed is a qualifier for the Kenya Open due in March 2014. There will be a cut after the first 18 holes.
