Tooro elders demonstrate at court over Kemigisha case

A sizeable number of Batooro youths and elders have demonstrated outside the Supreme Court protesting what they called persistent defamation by an English tabloid against the Tooro Queen Mother.

A sizeable number of Batooro youths and elders have demonstrated outside the Supreme Court protesting what they called persistent defamation by an English tabloid against the Tooro Queen Mother Best Kemigisha.


The protesters holding placards calling for the banning of the tabloid and arrest of their two senior editors, urged all the Batooro to shun the tabloid.

Miriam Namara a hairdresser hailing from Tooro asserted that their kingdom has been attacked especially the personality of the Queen mother through the tabloid. She urged all the Batooro to protect their kingdom.

Godfrey Mugisha a resident of Fort portal pledged support to the Queen mother claiming that some bad elements are using the tabloid to antagonize the kingdom by tarnishing the image the Queen mother.

The protesters pitched camp for several hours at the Twed Towers housing the Supreme Court.

They were part of mainly Batooro that had come to attend the hearing of the case in which the Queen mother Best Kemigisha sued the Red Pepper for allegedly defaming her.

According to the Kemigisha’s Counsel, David Wandera , the case before by Justice Elizabeth Musoke was adjourned January 24,2014.
