Pastor William Muwanguzi commonly known as ‘Kiwedde’ has been re-arrested for allegedly attempting to escape from Kalisizo prison.

Muwanguzi’s attempted escape comes just a week after the Kalisizo Grade II Magistrate, Bbosa Lutalo, remanded him on charges of impersonation.

Posing as a Catholic priest from Kenya, Muwanguzi who called himself Paul Mwamba organised an un-authorized Charismatic Prayer Service at Nabisere Hotel in Kalisizo Town Council with intent to extort money from unsuspecting residents of Rakai.

He further claimed he would heal them during the service of health ailments such as cancer, epilepsy, and HIV/AIDs. He claimed he would also cure blindness among other diseases.

However, catholic priests from Matale Parish tipped off police which arrested him along with his colleague Julius Mukasa and later produced to court which remanded them until November 26.

While in prison, Muwanguzi dug a hole last on Monday night to escape from Kalisizo prison but he went out of luck when a prison warder who was on duty found him.

As a result, he was arrested and taken to Kalisizo Police station on Tuesday morning.

Frank Baine, the Public Relations Officer Uganda Prisons said the inmates took advantage of insufficient manpower at Kalisizo prison and the dilapidated facility which requires.
