GULU:  Court in Gulu has sentenced a man to 35 years in prison for killing his eight year old, step son.

High Court Judge John Keitirima ruled that the evidence adduced before court proved beyond reasonable doubt that Joseph Opira committed the offence.

Court heard that on February 5, Joseph Opira, a resident of Paomo village in Amuru district picked up a quarrel, with his wife, the mother of the deceased and assaulted her, forcing her to run away from home.

Jonathan Muwaganya, Gulu Resident State Attorney said that when the deceased’s mother ran away, Opira turned the rage against a minor, causing bodily harm. He was rushed to Lacor Hospital where he died from.

Opira re-appears in court on November 21 for sentencing.
