Calm has been restored and lectures have resumed at the Makerere University Business School (MUBS), following the weekend strike.

The students on Saturday protested against being denied from doing course work tests before completing their tuition fees payments.

The strike, which begun in the Business Administration (BBA) class, that accommodates over 1000 students, spread to other parts of the university and its surrounding areas including, the Capital Shoppers mall, Nakawa Institute of Information technology and students hostels.

As a result, school property worth millions of shillings was damaged. Students stoned the university’s newly constructed main library, and some lecture rooms, breaking glasses.

“We are currently investigating the culprits who led to the riot and they shall face disciplinary action,” said Peter Odoki, the University’s spokesperson.

Regarding the course work tests that the students missed, Odoki said the university was set to announce a new date for them to seat the tests.

“We still have three weeks to the end of the semester so we shall be able to squeeze in some time for them to sit for the tests they missed,” he said.

Odoki however said that the students shall begin their final examinations on the first week of December.
