SC Victoria University maintained top spot on the FUFA Super League table after troubled Express denied KCCA victory at Wankulukuku on Friday.

Victoria with 22 points from 11 games is just one point clear of KCCA, Vipers and Soana who are all tied on 21 points and merely separated by goal difference.

Relegation threatened Express coming off a player strike due to salary arrears left their misery off the pitch and battled to a 1-1 draw.

The hosts struck first early in the second half when Allan Kyambadde was set up by Omar Ngobi to tap in from close range—sparking off celebration from fans who had earlier on interrupted play when they hurled objects at assistant referee Samuel Kayondo.

Tom Matsiko later levelled for KCCA to pick a hard fought point from Wankulukuku and maintain second position in the 16-team league.

Express coach Frank ‘Video’ Anyau was all smiles, referring to the unexpected result as ‘Eclipse of football’.

“We came from the dark and struck like the Eclipse. Our situation has been bad but KCC were very lucky to snatch a draw. Our goal was disallowed yet my player was not offside. We also missed many scoring opportunities. I consider it a win for Express given the circumstances in which we played,” Anyau told New Vision Sport.

Express financial woes have seen them lose eight of the 11 games but have denied traditional rivals Villa and KCCA victory at Wankulukuku.

At Namboole Emmanuel Obitre scored the only goal of the match as Kiira Young humbled Proline.

In Mbale, Tito Okello and Herbert Adipio scored in each half as Jinja based BIDCO beat CRO 2-0.

Bright Stars held Soana to a goalless draw at Kavumba while Vipers whipped Simba 3-0 in Bombo.
