The IRC began working in Uganda in 1998 in response to the devastation wrought by the Lord’s Resistance Army, a rebel group in the north of the country. Through multiplicity of interventions, tens of thousands of people in northern Uganda were supported during displacement and following a cease-fi re agreement to return home and rebuild their lives.
In Karamoja, the IRC works in confl ict-affected communities to promote peace and improve access to services with a particular focus on the needs of women and children. In Uganda the IRC has activities in ten districts; Amudat, Alebtong, Kampala, Kitgum, Kotido, Lamwo, Lira, Moroto, Napak and Nakapiripirit.
