IBRAHIM Sekagya inspired the New York Red Bulls to their first-ever MLS Supporters’ Shield after scoring in consecutive games to condemn Chicago Fire to a 5-2 defeat.

The former Cranes captain had scored the previous weekend in the 3-0 win over Houston to ensure Red Bulls’ title charge remained intact.

And on Sunday at the Red Bull Arena, when the club’s managers asked the club’s top guns such as Sekagya, Thierry Henry and Tim Cahill to deliver, the Ugandan defender did not disappoint.

Apart from organising the team’s backfour, Sekagya kept surging forward in support of the two strikers Henry and Cahill and from one of the several raids, he managed his second goal in the Major Soccer League (MLS).

Sekagya poked a loose ball into the net on 49 minutes after Chicago goalkeeper Johnson had failed to handle Dax McCarty’s header.

Henry, Lioyd Sam, Eric Alexander, Jonny Steele scored Red Bulls’ other goals.

By virtue of winning the Shield — given to the team with the most points in the regular season — the Red Bulls, earned the top overall seed in the 2013 MLS Cup Playoffs and will host the MLS Cup Final on December 7 at the Red Bull Arena if they advance to that stage.
