KCCA and Sports Club Victoria University have each deposited the $10,000 (sh25m) set by FUFA as a precondition of being allowed as Uganda’s flag bearers in CAF competitions.

KCCA and Sports Club Victoria University have each deposited the $10,000 (sh25m) set by FUFA as a precondition of being allowed as Uganda’s flag bearers in CAF competitions.
“They have fulfilled all requirements including the cash deposit,” confirmed federation spokesperson Rogers Mulindwa on Wednesday at the FUFA weekly press conference.
KCC will represent Uganda in the Orange CAF Champions League while Victoria University will fly the country’s flag in the Confederations Cup.
FUFA set the deposit as a measure of the two clubs’ seriousness to fulfill the financially demanding continental circuit. The money is eventually returned to the clubs or is used to clear penalties incurred by clubs.
The two clubs have been given up to Tuesday to submit their team lists. FUFA will thereafter forward the names to the continental body for provision of CAF licenses.
KCCA Football Club, founded in 1967, has featured 20 times on the continental scene. Victoria University on the other hand will be making its maiden appearance.
KCC, with Brian Umony as their lead striker, last featured in the CAF Champions League in 2009 where they beat Mozambiquan side Ferroviario and South Africa’s SuperSport before being ejected in the second round by Sudanese side El Marriekh.
They thereafter played in the second round of the Confederations Cup where they lost to Nigerian Club Beyelsa.
Meanwhile, FUFA will on Saturday have an induction of its working committees. Federation second vice president Darius Mugoye explained that the day-long exercise will have FUFA equipping the committees with their terms of reference.
“We want to help them know their roles. It is also important that committees operate in line with the set manifesto.”
FUFA vice president (technical) Mujib Kasule told the press conference that the Cranes’ weekend training will not take place this week. Mujib, who is also in charge of the Super League, attributed the break to a hectic league that has all teams playing two matches this week.
