Kiboga town in ruins following devastating rain storm

KIBOGA - A heavy downpour on Tuesday evening that lasted not more than 30 minutes left over 30 business lock ups in the taxi park without roofs and properties worth millions of money destroyed.

Following the catastrophe, Kiboga town went in a power blackout after electric poles were felled to the ground.

Iron sheets that had been blonw off roofs and hanging electric wires were visible in the taxi part Wednesday morning as the business community lamented over the losses and wondering what to do next.

The Kiboga taxi park business community chairperson, Elia Ssekandi Mulanzi, appealed for immediate help from the town council and district authorities.

He said that the lockups were old which made it easy for the rainstorm to destroy them.

Ssekandi explained that the lockups are in a condemned state and unfit of the park status, appealing on the town council authorities to act with immediate effect.

Moses Kyeyune, one of the lock up owners in the park, said that he has nowhere to begin from adding that everything he had was destroyed in the storm.

Julius Katongole, the school director, said a classroom roof was blown off. He said that only two pupils sustained minor injuries from the falling debris.

Katongole however said the disaster has interrupted fine arrangements for the pending Primary Leaving Examinations scheduled for 4th and 5th of next month.

“This has created space problems and totally our arrangements for PLE and our appeal is for immediate help to possibly restore the roof before exams”, he said.

The Kiboga district information officer, Alex Bamuchaye, said they will treat the disaster with utmost importance to ensure the affected individuals and institutions are helped.
