Youth and children state minister Ronald Kibule has called expedited investigations into an incident in which a 23 year old woman was allegedly gang raped by Pakistani nationals in the city.

The call came as the police also issued and published photographs of two Pakistani nationals who allegedly raped and sodomized the woman.

Kibule made the call and condemned the act after he and police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba visited the woman in a facility in a city suburb on Thursday to assess the progress in her recovery and to assure her of government’s commitment to bring the perpetrators to book.

She was admitted to the facility, a women’s protection center for psychological counseling by the Action Aid Uganda after allegedly receiving death threats from anonymous people following her disclosure.

“This matter should be investigated to its logical conclusion and have the perpetrators charged in court.

The DPP (Director of Public Prosecutions) should expedite the file so that the accused are charged,” he said moments after emerging from the facility.

Having the accused arraigned in court, he said, would serve as a warning to those ‘involved in rape and defilement.’ “They should stop because the government is committed to fighting the vice,” he said and pledged to start her up upon recovery. “We shall identify for her what to do,” Kibule said.

Both Kibule and Nabakooba said the woman was recuperating and responding well to her new environment and treatment. “She is recovering,” Kibule said. Nabakooba said the police was waiting for the DPPS guidance on the matter, the file having been forwarded for perusal.

“The file was submitted for perusal on Monday and we (police) are still waiting for guidance on the matter,” she said and urged members of public to volunteer information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrators who the police believe could still be in the country.  The numbers to call are 0715986956; 0715986955; 0718357402 and 0800199699.

She said a medical report indicates that the victim was abused raped and sodomized.
