AFTER a string of losses away from home in friendly matches, it comes as no surprise that Uganda has slipped four places in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings released today.

Uganda is now placed 85th in the world and 20th in Africa; down one place.

Cranes lost twice to Egypt in low key friendlies in which coach Micho Sredojevic used a largely second string squad as he prepared for next month’s CECAFA tournament.

Neighbours Kenya have fared better, moving 11 places to 118 and 33rd in Africa while Tanzania improved just 1 places to 127th and 37th on the continent.

Ivory Coast, Africa’s top ranked side cemented their top 20 spot after improving to 17th from 19th. Ghana who humiliated Egypt 6-1 in the 1st leg of their 2014 World Cup Qualifier replace Algeria in second spot on the continent. Nigeria and Mali round up the top five.

England, Italy miss out on World Cup seeding

European heavyweights England and Italy will not be seeded in December’s World Cup draw after failing to occupy one of the top seven slots in the overall ranking, with Brazil already seeded as hosts.

England despite jumping 7 places are placed 10th while 2006 champions Italy have been edged out by Switzerland who also climbed 7 spots in the rankings.

Switzerland completed their qualifying group unbeaten to reach the finals for the third time in a row.

Spain, Argentina, Germany, Colombia, Belgium and hosts Brazil will also be seeded, as will Uruguay, if they beat Jordan in a two-leg playoff next month.

If Uruguay do not qualify, Netherlands, joint eighth with Italy in the rankings, will take their place among the seeds.
