Thank God for Uganda - Bishop Kakooza

Auxiliary Bishop of Kampala Archdiocese Christopher Kakooza has asked Ugandans to thank God for the gift of a good country as they celebrate 51 years of independence.

“As we celebrate the 51 years of independence, we should not forget to thank God and to pray for the good country he has given us. Uganda is endowed with good weather and environment that suits not only the natives, but also the foreigners; even though some Ugandans are bent on destroying the wonderful environment by harvesting the good forests without consideration,” Kakooza said.

The prelate made the remarks during a thanksgiving holy mass he led at the home of Captain Francis Babu and his wife, Margaret Nantongo Zziwa, the Speaker of East African Assembly on Thursday at their home at Lwamasaka-Luwala-Kammengo in Mpigi district.

Babu was thanking God after a successful medical operation while Zziwa was marking her first anniversary since she was elected Speaker.
 

Kakooza lamented that some Ugandans lack appreciation of God’s creation of Uganda as a beautiful country; full green vegetation and cool breezes and that is why they deplete the forests even though they very well know that such acts would create desert for this country.

He said that recently he received some visitors from a certain continent and they admired the beauty of Uganda with a favourable weather and environment. They also praised God’s creation with such endowment.

“As Ugandans let’s be proud of our country as we avoid destroying its environment through cutting trees unnecessarily,” Kakooza asked.

Nantongo-Zziwa told her guests how she attained her position of Speaker of the EA Assembly and saying that it was all God’s wishes. She said they were 48 candidates vying for the post.

She narrated the story as she sung a Luganda church song “mujje twebaze Omukama akola eby’amagero” literary meaning (come and let us thank God who makes wonders).

Captain Babu asked Bishop Kakooza to pray for them and the village as a whole which he said was infested with thieves, many whom are youth who do not want work.
