Angella Katatumba still unsung at home

It still baffles me how Angela Katatumba’s music has not taken off on the local scene where its message is most relevant, but rather abroad where the environment perpetuation and the other imperative issues she advocates for in her music are less pertinent.

It still baffles me how Angela Katatumba’s music has not taken off on the local scene where its message is most relevant, but rather abroad where the environment perpetuation and the other imperative issues she advocates for in her music are less pertinent.

Last Wednesday was the video premiere of her new single Supernatural girl at the Kampala Serena Hotel and like the super natural girl she is, her event attracted people from all walks of life, from Dr Ian Clarke, to Patrick Edwards the ambassador of Trinidad and Tobago, and Margret Ziwa, the speaker of the East African assembly.

It had Isaac Rucci co-emceeing with the flamboyant Anne Nambooze of the Campus 101 show on Urban TV, and though she is just 22, she is swiftly catching up.

Performances kicked off at 8:00pm with the Magic Hornz band playing a fusion of contemporary and antique performances.

Then came Patrick Idringi who gave it the feel of fun the M.C Anne had promised earlier when he sung, no, mimed a few reggae songs.

At a few minutes to 10:00pm, Angela Katatumba hoped onto stage to re-claim the show Patrick Idringi had stolen by performing a few of her songs before announcing the screening of the video.

With not a lot of shooting venues, the Supernatural girl video eloquently tells the story of a girl in an early marriage which turns sadistic when the man in question starts battering her.

The theme of domestic violence is vividly painted in the whole setting and that coupled with the mild lighting and apt venues is creativity at its best.

Apart from the smoke that almost blurs every scene, the story line is extremely plausible and the graphic execution splendid. A nice one Angela.
