PARLIAMENTARY honours await the national netball side for an outstanding show at the World Cup.

Uganda, previously ranked 14, finished eighth in netball’s biggest competition. It was the team’s first participation at this level in 36 years.

On a visit to parliament shortly after arrival from Australia on Tuesday, Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah said the house would officially recognize the team.

“This was an abrupt program but we shall get a proper day to table a motion to officially recognize the She Cranes,” promised Oulanyah.

Seated in the gallery, the team was hailed by the lawmakers. “We do appreciate your performance,” stated most MPs.

Kasese Woman Member of Parliament and the captain of the parliament’s netball team, Winnie Kiiza, gave a brief about the team’s preparations and performance in Sydney.

She asked government to invest more in preparation next time.

“I know the journey was not an easy one but they tried. One of the reasons they didn’t came back with the trophy is because they didn’t have sufficient support therefore the team calls for your financial support if they are to qualify for the 2019 World Cup.”

The team led by Uganda Netball Federation president Susan Anek was hosted to a luncheon in the parliamentary canteen.

“It is a great honour to be recognized by parliament. We look forward to the honours,” noted team captain Peace Proscovia.
