Belgium gives euros 3 million for agriculture

Belgium government has put euros 3 million into the agricultural sector to help Ugandan commercial farmers address effects of climate change in the six districts within the “cattle corridor”.

The funding which is to be channelled through Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) will benefit the districts of Sembabule, and Nakaseke, Luweero, Nakasongola, Mubende and Kiboga.

The Ambassador of Belgium, Alain Hanssen and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), country representative, Alhaji M. Jallow signed an agreement to implement the project at FAO’a office, Wandegeya.
According to the agreement, FAO would implement the project on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), and Ministry of water and Environment.

Jallow said that climate change and variability in Uganda are challenges to food security and agriculture because of the effects they have one basic elements of food production.
