KAMPALA - President Yoweri Museveni has made a plea to public school teachers who are currently on strike to return to work as the government seeks a solution to their demand for a pay rise.

“I appeal to the teachers to go back and work. We are not against giving teachers money but we still have roads and electricity to deal with,” Museveni said.

He was addressing a rally at Kumi primary school in Easter Uganda on Saturday.

“We promise to handle their issue next year, but teachers insist that we handle the issue today” Museveni noted.

“So should I stop this road of Soroti - Kumi -Mbale so that I increase salaries?”

Museveni accompanied by Musa Ecweru, the disaster preparedness minister and refuges, Christine Amongin Aporu, Capt. Mike Mukula the NRM mobilizer for Teso and Teddy Acham
