The bridge was destroyed during the insurgency by the Lord Resistance Army (LRA) rebels.

“We don’t have the money. It requires sh100m to carry out the repairs. Let the community wait for NUSAF II and they apply to have the bridge repaired,” Innocent Komaketch, a district official, said.

Komaketch told New Vision on Thursday that the district depends on money from the central government and therefore, can’t raise the sh100m to have the bridge repaired.

Residents in Owak village where the bridge is located complain that the bridge has become a hunting ground for thugs that waylay them at the danger spot leading to injuries when they fall off while fleeing for their lives.

Sande Ato, a resident of the area who was helping her 3-year-old girl to cross the bridge, said little children were at a higher risk of falling off as they can’t balance while walking on the unfenced bridge.

Meanwhile district authorities are constructing a multi- million shillings district headquarters which is in its final stages.
