Man held for raping a 90-year-old woman

POLICE have arrested a man for allegedly raping a 90-year-old woman at her Bunyiro village home in Iganga district

POLICE have arrested a man for allegedly raping a 90-year-old woman at her Bunyiro village home in Iganga district. 

 

According to Police, House Kalume was arrested after the alleged attack on July 24.  

 

The officer in charge of criminal investigations at Iganga Police Station, Sophie Nebushi, said it was at around 11:00pm when Kalume forced himself into the home of the victim, who lived alone. 

 

He bound her hands with a cloth, gagged her, raped her and fled.

 

The victim freed herself and alerted neighbours, who took her to the police post at the village. 

 

Nebushi said Police started the search for Kalume until he was arrested at Bunyiro village and was later transferred to Iganga Police Station where he is behind detained.

 

She said Kalume will be charged with aggravated rape and a file case number CRB: 754/2015 was opened against him. 

 

Nebushi also added that such aggravated rape cases are committed by youth who take drugs and cautioned residents to desist from such drugs that can lure them into criminal acts.

 

She also requested victims of rape to always come out and report to Police so that the culprits are apprehended and taken to courts of law.
