New form of evangelism reaches KCCA

 

The programme director in Kampala Archdiocese, Rev Fr Denis Kizito-Ssebunnya, in an effort to effectively implement the programme, has already stormed Kampala City Capital Authority (KCCA) where he intends to engage everyone in the spread of the word of God.

He said that Kampala Archbishop, Dr Cyprian Kizito-Lwanga launched the programme with special focus on Pope emeritus Benedict XVI’s declaration of the year that runs from October 2012 until November 2013.

 

“The new evangelization calls upon each of us to deepen our faith, believe in the message of the Gospel and go forth to proclaim it.

 

"It also calls upon all Catholics without discrimination to first be evangelized before we can go out to evangelize others. In a special way, the New Evangelization is focused on re-proposing the Gospel to those who have experienced a crisis of faith,” Fr Ssebunya said.

 

Pope Benedict XVI called for the re-proposing of the Gospel in those areas awaiting the first evangelization and; to those regions where the roots of Christianity are deep, but who have experienced a serious crisis of faith due to secularization.

 

The New Evangelization invites each Catholic to renew their relationship with Jesus Christ and his Church.

 

As a journey of faith, worship and witness, it presents three opportunities for the transmission of the Christian faith. They require involving more closely those who are faithful and need to be renewed with increased catechesis.

 

They also require to reach out to those who have never heard of the gospel being proclaimed and also to re-engage those who were baptized, but have lost the direction of faith in their daily lives.

The New Evangelization has a natural progression that engages the worker through a focus on faith inviting Catholics to a deeper relationship with Christ and a deeper understanding of the Church. It also inspires vibrant community with sacramental life.

 

It also intensifies the Eucharist and Penance through marriage and greater appreciation of the family, which is the domestic church. It strengthens peoples’ understanding of the Christian vocation and to live as witness to Jesus Christ and dignity of the human person.

 

Earlier, Fr Ssebunnya had met catechists of Mbuya and Bbina Catholic parishes. 

 

Evangelization as a regular activity of the church, would be taken to different places and organizations including companies, factories, market places, shops, Boda-Boda cyclists and others.

 

The work of the Church is to bring all people into a relationship with God, and also to transform and sanctify the society in which we live in as witnesses.

 

Social justice is an integral part of evangelization, which is a constitutive dimension of preaching the Gospel, which in turn is an essential part of the Church's mission.

 

Thomas Ssentongo, an employee of KCCA said they were pleased with the Archdiocese’s idea to spread evangelization into the different places of work, saying it would improve and deepen people faith especially in increasingly secular world.
