Police in Nateete has identified the five victims of an accident that occurred Monday this week in Nateete, a Kampala suburb along Kampala – Masaka highway.

Four people perished in this accident and one person was rushed to Mulago hospital where he is currently fighting for his life.

The four are; Moses Lukoda, a boda boda cyclist and resident of Mutundwe; Bridget Namatovu, a TV decoder dealer and resident of Bulenga; Jalia Nakanjako, a resident of Lugazi and her 10-year old son, Waiswa Sebuufu, and Moses Bakabulinde, a resident of Najjanankumbi who is fighting for his life at Mulago hospital.

According to George Nyende, the traffic boss Nateete police station, the Fuso truck, registration number UAN 811A that caused the fatal accident was in poor condition and the driver was speeding which led to brake failure and crashed.

Nyende said police has mounted operations to search for the truck driver who is still on the run.

He added that, all indications are that the truck belongs to Excel Junior School Nateete and they are still trying to get in touch with the headmaster of the school who is currently out of Kampala to confirm the ownership.

“Drivers should service their cars as often as possible. They should drive minding the narrowness of roads which are full of pot holes. This will help them control speeds to save their lives,” Nyende said.

Jane Nankya, a shopkeeper who witnessed the accident said that the place was not as busy as it usually is otherwise causalities could have been more.

Nankya said that no one noticed the truck coming since its driver did not make even hoot.

She requested police to tighten laws on over speeding drivers who usually cause these accidents and in most cases run away unpunished.
