IT only required luck for Mutoni Warriors to claim victory in the National Rugby 7s circuit first leg on Saturday at Legends Rugby Club.

Despite facing relegation in the 2013/2014 Nile Special Premier Rugby League, Mutoni Warriors through a coin toss advanced to the final circuit against team Uganda that was playing as a guest team.

Warriors lost 24-0 in the final to the National sevens team preparing for the Kenya Safaricom 7s tournament in Nairobi later this month but were crowned circuit champions.

Warriors luck started against Rams in the semi-final when they drew 5-5 and went for drop kicks with each converting 1-1 out of the three chances prompting the coin toss by referee Charles Mungoma which they emerged victors to reach the final.

At the final Emma Ecudu scored two tries, while Ezeikel Okol and Philip Pariyo managed a try each as Jasper Ochen made the two conversions to hand team Uganda a 24-0 victory.

Team Uganda eliminated Heathens 14-7 in a mouth-watering semi-final that saw, player Romano Ogwal lose his cool against referee Richard Akena.

Ogwal approached the referee at the bench in the presence of Ramsey Olinga and said,” I’m just here to tell you (Akena) that what you referees are officiating is real bull yet we are sacrificing our lives on the pitch.”

Olinga intervened and tried to restrain Ogwal but the Heathens’ lock was firm and bold with his word and vowed not to withdraw it.

The second circuit will be held at Makerere University ground on Saturday.
