KAMPALA - Internal Affairs minister, Gen. Aronda Nyakairima has hailed Police boss, Gen. Kale Kayihura for transforming the Police force from a “nomadic” force into one with a fixed place of aboard.

On his first visit to the Police headquarters in Naguru on Friday since his appointment to cabinet, Aronda also met top police bosses.

He was flanked by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Stephen Kagoda.

“Gone are the days when police was nomadic in nature, where they would be chased from one place to another,” said the minister.

“In my political education teachings, I put a line between the old Uganda and the new Uganda. The old Uganda is where police were nomadic. They would be chased from one place to another but now there’s a home,” he added.

The Police force recently shifted from its rented offices on Parliamentary Avenue to Naguru, where they are currently being housed in the Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department Offices.

Aronda reiterated the need for police to keep an eye on service delivery to ensure that government funds are put to proper use.  He said this can be achieved by reinforcing a service delivery monitoring mechanism.

The former Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) made sure to call upon the Director of CIID, Grace Akullo to work hand-in-hand with the different service delivery institutions to detect crime beforehand other than investigating it after money has been misappropriated.

He highlighted the need for police to work with public hospitals to ensure that drugs are put to their intended purpose.

Arounda stressed the importance of the East African Community (EAC) and urged officers to embrace the regional integration as it will help in fighting transnational border crimes.

He thanked police officers for the great work they have been doing in protecting the people and urged them to continue with the same spirit.

He pointed out that he has come to re-energize them.
