Nile Special Uganda Cup final

Heathens 17 Kobs 7

MTN Heathens completed league and cup double with a hard fought victory over traditional rivals D’Mark Kobs in the Nile Special Uganda Cup final at Kyadondo Club on Saturday.

Heathens captain Michael Wokorach turned in a stellar performance as his side triumphed over Kobs by 17-7.

Buoyed by the home crowd, Heathens turned on the heat early which yielded a try by Asuman Mugerwa 10 minutes into the game. Benon Kizza whose boot exhibited admirable accuracy on the day converted to make it 7-0. Heathens held onto the slim lead up to halftime.

Heathens occupied the Kobs territory for the better part of the first half and Kobs’ only threaten was posed by James Ijongati’s penalty that he shot wide.

Early in the second half Wokorach intercepted a pass between the opponents and sprinted from the centreline to make a try amidst cheers. Kizza kicked in the conversion to make it 14-0.

Midway the second half Kizza’ penalty to stretch the margin to 17-0 in the highly charged final that saw Heathens Romano Ogwal and Kobs’ James Kimono sin binned.

Kobs eventually got a penalty try after a bad tackle on Justin Kimono who had for the better part of the match been kept at bay by Wokorach’s tackles.

“As captain I had to lead by example and I had to play my best game,” Wokorach remarked after receiving the man-of-the match award.

Heathens ended Kobs’ three-year dominance of the Uganda Cup.
