SPANIARD Antonio Flores has promised to bring fast and entertaining football to Villa Park.

“My philosophy is in fast movement of the ball and players. I want Villa to play like Spain and Germany,” stated Flores.

Flores gave a hint of his plans at a press conference at Pope Paul Hotel where he was yesterday unveiled as new Sports Club Villa tactician.

He explained that he brings new knowledge to not only the players but also coaching staff.

Flores who was in March introduced as the club’s official scout, will have fellow Spaniard Francisco Soriano Martinez as his assistant.

Flores’ predecessor Ibrahim Kirya together with Phillip Obwin and Phillip Ssozi will also serve as assistants.

Club chairman Ben Misagga said he had already secured most of the players that Flores had during his earlier stay in Uganda spotted.

“We only missed out on Farouk Miya, Robert Ssentongo and Keziron Kizito. But we have brought on board all the other players he identified.”

Flores, who has a two year contract, becomes the third European to coach Villa.

Villa and Europeans

Briton Geoff Hudson handled Villa from 1988 to 91, leading the Jogoos to their first league and cup double in 1988. He repeated the feat in 89.

Villa were league champions again in 1990 before Hudson led them to the Africa Club Championship final.

Current Cranes coach Milutin Sredojevich was the next European at Villa Park. He also led the club to a double and consecutive league titles.

Misagga is confident the new technical team can soar to even greater heights.

“My target is to get to the FIFA Club World Cup. I am sure with some hard work we can get there.”

Club CEO Ivan Kakembo said selection of the Spaniards was a result of a rigorous selection exercise conducted by British firm Sisu Sports Management.

The 42-year-old Spaniard has been the head coach of the U-16 Polideportivo Aguadulce, a team that plays in Andaluza league which is in the 5th level of competition in Spanish League Football.
