Uganda to host Africa-China governors and mayors

Uganda is to host a dialogue for governors and mayors of China and the East African Community member states to interact between the private sector and local governments of China and East Africa.

The meeting scheduled for November 22 will be attended by about 500 delegates from both regions including local Government leaders and technocrats, development agency representatives, the private sector and experts of various issues.

A regional meeting of Local Government Ministers from the East African Region is also to take place in Kampala next month in preparation ahead of the November meet.

Vice President Edward Ssekandi is the current Chairperson of the Forum on China Africa Local Government Cooperation while the Minister for Local Government Adolf Mwesige is the board member.

A statement from the Vice President’s office yesterday said that recently the Secretary General of the China-Africa Friendship Forum Feng Zuoku met VP Ssekandi and briefed him on progress of the forum’s activities since he was elected a year ago.

The secretariat team appreciated Ssekandi’s commitment to the forum’s activities, and in particular initiating China-Africa Friendship Association in Uganda as a model for Africa.

Vice President Ssekandi said that the event will be an opportunity to engage local governments and private sector in the regional development agenda in partnership with China.
