Uganda Golf Open attracts 466 players

Over 466 golfers will compete in the five-in-one Tusker Malt Lager Uganda Golf Open that tees off with the Ladies Open on July 15-18.

Over 466 golfers will compete in the five-in-one Tusker Malt Lager Uganda Golf Open that tees off with the Ladies Open on July 15-18.

By end of deadline on Monday, 51 ladies had registered for the women event that will have both local and foreign golfers competing over 54 holes.

The Seniors Open that follows thereafter on July 19-20 has attracted 50 golfers who will compete in three categories; of the 55-65 years range, the 65-75 and the 75 and above.

There will be an overall net winner for the seniors alongside other category winners. The seniors’ will compete over two days before the main amateur event.

The amateur open has attracted 90 players while 69 have registered in the professionals category with Kenya (28 entries) leading the number of entrants.

Golfers from Uganda (21), Kenya, South Africa (7), Zimbabwe (3), Swaziland(2), Zambia (1), Tanzania (2), Mauritius (1), Rwanda (2), Nigeria (1) and Ghana (1) will fi ght for a share of sh100m prize money.

By Wednesday, 178 players had registered to play in the ladies, amateur and professional subsidiary events but with the extension of the deadline (July 11) in this category more entries are expected following a request by upcountry and foreign players.
