KAMPALA - Former Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi, on Thursday set off from Kampala destined for Mbale to hold consultations for his presidential bid.

The 225-km journey east of the capital Kampala averagely lasts about 3 hours and 40 minutes.

Mbabazi, who was driven in a dark blue Land Cruiser Prado, had by 9.00am passed Mukono town. He had not experienced any barricades but our reporters said that there was heavy deployment  at the Nile Bridge.

Earlier, Police on Wednesday, in a statement, dismissed as baseless reports that Mbabazi had been cleared to hold consultative meetings.

“We would wish to categorically state that the police has no communication to that effect, and thus, its position over the intended meetings deemed unlawful still remains unchanged.

"We also want to warn all radio and television licenses that there are established channels through which communication from the President's Office is disseminated and/or verified, that is open to all media managers," Police said in a statement.
