Ronald Musagala’s quest for a medal on the big stage will have him running only the 1500 meters at the Beijing World Championships.

He believes that in order to be at his best he should enter only the 1500m in Beijing.

Musagala, who featured in both the 800 and 1500m at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games last year, failed to win a medal in both races.

He recently hit the Beijing mark at the FBK Games in Hengelo by breaking Julius Achon’s 15 year national record. He clocked three minutes 35:02 seconds finishing second in a race won by Kenya’s Robert Biwott.

“The world championships is the premier athletics event. In order to be at my best I have to concentrate,” stated Musagala.

Musagala however said he will on the local scene continue competition in the two-lap race for speed work.

With the biennial world meet just a month away, seven other Ugandans have hit the Beijing standard.

Stephen Kiprotich, Solomon Mutai, Jackson Kiprop and Abraham Kiplimo have hit the marathon mark while Juliet Chekwel and Moses Kibet have qualified for the 10000m.

Musagala in Glasgow made it to both the 800 and 1500m finals but could not make it to the medal podium in both.

Kiprotich will be defending his marathon crown.
