Preparations for this year’s East African Military Games and Cultural event in Kampala got a boost with more funding from corporate organisations in the country.
The corporate organisations and prominent individuals contributed sh236.3m in cash and pledges during a dinner hosted by the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen. Katumba Wamala at UPDF headquarters in Mbuya.
The lively dinner had corporates rubbing shoulders with the top army brass who also made personal contributions towards the success of the 9th edition of the event meant to foster corporation in the region.
KCCA Executive Director Jennifer Musisi (below, left) who was among the high profile dignitaries at the dinner promised a special contribution for the event.
The games due on August 15-31 will involve visiting army team from the East African states of Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi competing in soccer, basketball, handball, netball, cross-country.
Gen. Katumba thanked the corporates for contributing, to what he said, was a great cause.
“This is a landmark because these games help us build relationships and understanding beyond work,” he said.

The games organising committee chairman Brig. Moses Rwakitarate is optimistic of an exciting meet in Kampala.
“Whenever we host this event we step up gear. It’s our hope that with this support this year event will be much better,” said Rwakitarate who appealed to all Ugandans to turn up for the event.
The annual event that will be spiced with different cultural shows from various teams will be hosted at Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mukono, Mandela National Stadium, Lugogo indoor stadium.
The cross-country will be held in scenic Jinja Golf Course. This will be the third time for Uganda to host the regional meet since it was relaunched in Kampala in 2005.
Uganda got the mantle to host this year’s event after last year’s meet in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
