Mekerere University students have stormed Parliament demanding for immediate re-opening of the University.

The over 300 students led by the guild president, Anna Adeke Ebaju are seeking for Parliament’s intervention.

“We want Parliament to intervene immediately. This should be solved once and for all. We paid tuition and we are being cheated,” one of the students said.

The University was Wednesday closed indefinitely over lectures’ demand of 100% salary increment.

Makerere University Council in May approved a request by staff to double their salaries across the board, bringing an end to a sit-down strike.

But the education minister, Jessica Alupo, said the Government would not implement a 100% pay rise for Makerere staff across the board this financial year.
